Dia de los muertos - Day of the Dead
The Day of the Dead is not a mourning event, but a folk festival in honor of the dead. According to Mexican folklore, the souls of the deceased return to their families on these days to visit them. The streets are decorated with flowers, symbols of death and transience, skeletons and skulls in a wide variety of designs are displayed in shop windows, and images of La Catrina can be seen everywhere.
